Ponchatoula Strawberry Jam

The unique, delicious flavor of our southern Ponchatoula Strawberries is captured for you here. Ponchatoula Strawberries are known for their sweetness, and picked ripe means red all the way through flavor.

Ponchatoula is long known as the Strawberry capital of the universe, and in the heyday would supply berries north to Chicago on the overnight train. The train would pull up alongside the farms and they would load the berries in directly from the field on their way north.

Today strawberries are regularly available at the Farmer’s Market– the season basically runs from November/December into the first of May; Ms Heather from Johndale Farms brings a volume of berries, Isabelle’s and Joe Fekete Family Farms notably also have berry selections. We have also gone to various pick-your-own operations in the Ponchatoula area.

Great on a buttermilk biscuit, charcuterie plate to add sweetness, or in a vinaigrette.
