Sweet and tangy chopped relish of cabbage, peppers and green tomatoes.

Our Garden Chow-Chow is a Sweet & Tangy pickled relish of Cabbage, green tomatoes, mixed peppers and fresh turmeric from the garden.  It is traditionally a gleaning pickle– anything pulled from the garden as it was turned over for the season would get chopped up and added to the mix. This recipe is from Mississippi and we preapre it with a bigger chop sine we like to see more in the city.

We pickle it sweet and tangy with a little turmeric– it is a stand-out relish at the grill and simply cannot be beat on a dog or brat of any kind.  It is also a fantastic addition to a rice or noodle bowl of any kind for it’s unmatched flavor as well as its golden color!

Chow-chow is a southern staple, but we have really only encountered it in more rural and small town settings.  It varies in ingredients and texture across the south– let us know what is your chow-chow memory!
